Day 53 – El Calafate (3rd Feb 2010)

Lago Argentino

Had a lie in and went for breakfast at 9.00. Visited the ‘Reserva Laguna Nimez’ again and did the full tour with chat to the local ranger. Managed to see Hen Harriers, Flamingos, Southern lapwings, Upland and Ashy headed geese, Black headed swans, Grebe, Blue billed ducks and more we couldn’t positively identify. During the night it had snowed again and the surrounding mountains had a covering to quite low levels. Spent the day trying to work out how we might pack for walking in Torres del Paine considering the size of our lightweight folding rucsacs. We didn’t really plan for big multi-day walks as we hoped to be cycling a lot more….but with our confidence already battered by the wind and stories that the winds we had already experienced were, but a breeze, compared to TdP we wanted to enjoy our final few weeks and select a mode of travel that wouldn’t involve pushing, falling off and singing any more Status Quo!
