Wow what a journey! A 4 ½ hour drive into London in the hire car, bus to Terminal 3 from hire drop off, 8 hour flight to (Toronto -18C), 10 ½ hour flight to Santiago ( Chile 30C ), a 2ish hour flight to Buenos Aires and a 30 minute drive to our B&B in Adrogue, a southern suburb 12 miles south of BA .
Air Canada was very efficient with our bikes, no questions, checks or hassle at Heathrow....and they appear to have arrived in one piece at Buenos Aires.....all the bags and bikes were there waiting when we walked through to baggage claim. A few bashes and straps missing as to be expected.
Buddha, our B&B taxi man, was there with his sign as promised and he whisked us off to his car weaving in and out of crazy car drivers in stifling heat. The drivers are as bad as all the guide books claim...nobody wears seat belts, motorcyclists don’t wear helmets (always at least 2 people per bike), everybody disregards the highway code ( jumping traffic lights, weaving in and out of traffic at speed with various limbs hanging out of the windows whilst smoking and kissing their girlfriends simultaneously) and the odd stray dog and youth lurching into the road without a care for their safety! Note: cycle carefully in any big towns or cities.
Arrived at Teresita B&B which is located on the most incredible tree lined road we have ever seen. The owners greeted us and took all our kit to our little cottage in their beautiful lush green oasis of a garden where we saw our first humming bird amongst many others. In fact we have never seen so many different species...goodness know what they all are? Sat outside on our veranda and made friends with ‘Tiny’ their big pointer dog....she sat with us most of the evening. Set off at 8.20 for a wander into the centre of Adrogue and find a restaurant Teresa had recommended...it was so busy with families and children playing...the evening light seemed to vanish in the 15 minutes it took us to stroll there. Yes, we did say stroll!!! the heat meant you couldn’t do much else. Excellent start to the holiday!
