Day 73 – Bariloche – Catedral ride 41km

Had a lie in and had a chat with Mr.Guemes who recommended a ride up to Villa Catedral, a local ski resort which is apparently the largest in South America with 67km of pistes. The weather was hot and still and there was barely a wave on the lake, which had 1m breaking waves when we arrived 5 weeks ago and higher the day John got blown off his bike. The cycling was amazing without panniers and we raced up the hill enjoying our newly discovered ability to accelerate! We arrived at the ski resort in just under an hour (John won the sprint for the finish by a considerable distance –John’s addition!) and found a place for coffee where we watched downhill mountain bikers careering down the steep dusty slopes opposite. There was a small skateboard area which had a car parked next to it with the doors open playing reggae music…..is it the same car that follows us around? We chose an alternative route back via a bumpy dirt track to Villa Los Coihues where we forced down another coffee and some dulce medialunas.
